Late-medieval Welsh manor

Through our investigative work at this site we were able to date the building to 100 years earlier than had previously been stated. We have assisted the owner and his architect in producing a sensitive scheme which restores much the building’s historic layout and character.

Private residence Conservation Area

A Heritage Statement produced by AHC for this site has secured the demolition of an unimportant, riverside property and planning permission for the construction of a larger, more appropriate modern, river-fronting.

Listed 18th-century Oxon rectory

Commissioned by a planning consultancy we produced a Heritage Statement to assist in the Rectory’s re-ordering.

18th-century terraced house in Bristol

This four-storey town house was in a poor state of repair having been used as a restaurant and then left empty. We were able to advise on the sensitive repair of this listed building and then its conversion back to a residential use.

Nineteenth-century manor house

Advice was needed concerning the correct approach to alterations and extensions to this early nineteenth-century, classical manor house, which was originally a rectory. Having assessed the significance of the listed building, we advised the client on a best-practice approach.

Dartmoor location

Working for an architect, at his own country home, AHC was engaged to investigate a mediaeval farm complex on Dartmoor. Through our analysis of this early, cross-passage house, we were able to unravel the history of the house and help the owner make informed decisions regarding its restoration and conservation.

Bibury Court

This sixteenth-century listed building is now a large, private hotel, built in the 1550s as a small gabled manor house and extended dramatically between 1629-33. Piecemeal changes occcured in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, including some important Art Deco in the cocktail lounge. AHC produced an architectural and historical appraisal to advise architects on expansion.

Blunsdon St Andrews

Following archival and historical research into this Grade I church remodelled by William Butterfield, our findings were used to secure a substantial repairs grant for re-roofing from English Heritage. The church dates from the thirteenth century and was heavily restored and its roof rebuilt between 1863 and 1868.

Bruton Tower

We were commissioned by the National Trust to carry out historical research into the history, original purpose and architecture of the Bruton Tower prior to its repair. The Tower had never been given a definitive date of construction nor had its original purpose ever been determined. AHC was able to enlighten the Trust on both.
